The Double-Edged Sword
Leverage amplifies both profits and losses:
- 1:30 leverage + 1% move = 30% return on capital
- 1:100 leverage + 1% move = 100% return on capital
- But -1% with 1:100 = -100% (total loss)
Margin Call Distance
This shows how far the market can move against you before a margin call:
- 1:30 → ~30% adverse move before margin call
- 1:100 → ~1% adverse move before margin call
